Our latest Junior Creative Team on 6 months with the company

In the autumn of 2022, we arrived at the Cravens Kings Cross office as a placement Creative Team. Now hired and 6 months on, how’s it all going?

Short answer: very well.

As a curious, motivated duo nearly a year out of university who love what we do, Cravens has thrown us in the best way possible— headfirst with watchful lifeguards making sure nothing goes massively wrong. We’ve worked on everything from TV campaigns, radio, brand films and guidelines, to socials, activations, brochures, and enough creative ideas to begin a small library. It’s a dream.

It’s not superficial work either, we get the whole brief, warts and all, with the knowledge we’ll be presenting directly to clients and fighting the creative corner in the weeks to come. You might think we lack the creative experience to be trusted with so much responsibility and we agree. Enter lifeguards.

We’ve never experienced— maybe even at university— this much one-to-one time with our creative directors. Whether in check-ins over coffee or working together to push an idea further, our access and familiarity with them is profound on the work and our development.

This is true for the whole company too. There are no dividers between people; we work eye-to-eye with account directors, strategists, designers, even the CEO and Chairman. It feels like we’re part of a proper team that works with us, not just our ideas.

And because there aren’t eggshells under our stride or frogs in our throat, the creativity flows, clients are happy and we learn like bookworms.

Cravens head office is in Newcastle and jam-packed full of ‘Geordies-like’, which is a lovely change from the suited zombies of the London Underground each morning. The company works hard to keep us all connected as one, so we regularly travel to the Tyne and catch up face-to-face, over a few beers and slices of cake (not together). We also have a creative club, midweek half-time shows to share our latest work with the whole company and quarterly town hall meetings that bring us all together for some fun.

In such a supportive and relaxed place, working closely with our peers and the whole Cravens team, we’re eager to see where the next 6 months, and beyond, take us.

We wouldn’t be surprised if we’re writing another post that says we’re working on a billboard for the moon or a chatbot for a plumber. Whatever it is, it’ll be wacky and interesting.
